Wedding Traditions - Something Old?

Most brides seem to be aware of the wedding tradition of wearing certain things to their wedding ceremony.
Something old, Something new
Something borrowed, Something blue

But where and when did this tradition begin?
Looking at the next verse of this well known poem reveals just a little bit more about the subject:

And a silver sixpence in her shoe...

Sixpence was a coin of the realm in Britain for nearly 400 years, and was worth 6 pennies. Although the exact date of the poem is unknown, it is commonly attributed to the Victorian era.

So, "Something old" - is thought to signify a brides connection with her family, her past, her cultural history, and the wisdom of her ancestry.

Music for Weddings

I am often asked about recommending other Wedding Vendors to couples who are trying to complete their wedding plans. One of the categories that cause people the most thought is: Music

Unlike photographers, florists, and bakeries...the music you choose for your wedding can take MANY forms. Pre-recorded, live, trios, string quartets, bands...the list goes on and on.

Don't be affraid to ask one of your current vendors for recommendations to other vendors. Any vendor who truly knows the business has likely worked many weddings, and come into contact with all sorts; good, bad and everything in between. I maintain a list of those I have worked with, and that impressed me...and I'm not an easy person to impress!

Let me pass along one of those now - The Island Trio!

This group has been playing together for over 8 years and is made up of Jim Chan on rhythm guitar and vocals, Ken Drottar on lead guitar and Gary Chambers on bass. They play a wide variety of music including Jimmy Buffet, Van Morrison, Beatles, Kenny Chesney, and Lyle Lovett just to mention a few. They’re great for those times when you want live music but don’t want it so loud that you can’t talk. For booking information contact Jim Chan either by phone (503) 682-5758 evenings, (503) 294-4215 weekdays.

Welcome Everyone!

As we move into the beginning of a new Wedding Season, we are here to help answer any questions you have about wedding photography as well as weddings in general.

We have photographed hundreds of weddings and can speak on pretty good authority about the journey you are about to take.

Hold on tight, compare wisely among all your vendors, ask questions, and enjoy the ride!

Please know, most prudent brides and grooms are searching RIGHT NOW (October, November 2008) for their vendors of choice for Spring/Summer 2009. As the holiday season nears, you will see many wedding related events and bridal shows...however, by then many prime dates will be booked by many vendors.

Don't settle, get out in front of the pack no matter what type of vendor you need!
